1/12/07:
Hole in One--Tom Zix, Creekside #5, 121 yards,
witnessed by Crain, Irish, Freehauf.
It is ace No. 3 for the Kentucky boy.
Hole in One Kid:
Doug Bond
And we quote: "After 57 years of practice,
I finally have the game of golf down pat getting my first hole in one today
(12/18/07). I would like to report that I faded a three-wood on to a
245-yard par three and ran the shot into the cup. However, that would a bit
of an exaggeration. I sunk a 120-yard nine iron. (No. 14, Creekside).
Needless to say, I am ecstatic."
Herm
George
Aces No.17
Wednesday,
November 28, Herm George hit a perfect 9 iron to the green on Linkside's
hole number 17 for his ace.
Congratulations Herm!
Jim Griffin Joins Hole in
One Parade
2006
Jim Griffin made it three holes in one in as many Golden Boys outings on 5/19
when he aced Creekside's #14.
Earlier in the week,
Linkside's #5 was spanked by Al Valenti (5/16 on during the Mountain
Interclub) and by Richard Hanks (5/17 during the Wednesday game).
Hollabaugh Takes a Turn
In Hole-in-One Barrage
2005
Russ Hollabaugh (6/8) and George Baker (6/7) hammered the Golden Boys Hole In
One Kitty, each bagging an ace in Golden Boys competition on consecutive days.
Doc's big play came on Creekside's No. 17. Baker made
his during the first day of the
Member-Guest Tournament on 6/7, acing Creekside's No. 14 with a pitching wedge.
Neither is new to this Hole in One business.
Russ also has aced
#17 Linkside, #8 Linkside and
three in Ohio.
It was Brother Baker's fifth career ace. Incidentally, son Brad (member guest his playing
partner) also was a witness to George's second ace a few years back.
This means all of us loyal Hole In One members must cough up three bucks
for Hollabaugh's handy work and three more bucks to get the kitty built back up
for the next one.
Congrats, boys.
Moeller Empties Hole in One Kitty
The Hole-in-One Kitty is empty, so "blame" it on Merv Moeller and his ace on No. 5 on Linkside during the Golden Boys Wednesday 4/20 play. His seven-iron on the 130-yard hole took that magical path to the cup and allowed him to collect the accumulated bonus from the kitty. Mack Whitley, Dave Edwards and Jim Cadieu witnessed this one, which is Moeller's second career hole in one (Other was July 5, 1995).
Bill Morrow, Darrell Cobb -- Had aces in 2004/5
Every Nine Years or So
When Bob Siddens made a hole-in-one
Saturday, he set himself into some kind of a pattern. He's had two golfing
aces, the first May 29, 1995 (Linkside #17) and now this one, also on
May 29 (nine years later).
The latest came on hole #5 Linkside, 130 yards with an 8 iron. Witnessed by Charlie Todd, Tom Zix, Frank Terlizzi, and the guy who lives to the right of the tee box who happened to be standing on his deck watching and gleefully reported that, in five years living there, it was the first one he had seen.
LEN LIPOWICZ HOLE IN ONE, His Ninth.
10/3/03
Len Lipowicz reached into The Golden Boys' hole-in-one
kitty 10/3/03 by making an ace on Creekside's Hole #5.
A
pitching wedge turned the trick for him. Curiously, it is his NINTH career
hole in one and we're wondering if there's any other Golden Boy who has done
that???? Speak up.
The Lipowicz group won the team competition of 2 net balls plus birdies never
die with a minus 25 score. They scored a minus six on Hole #5 along, as
Wendell Alderman and Bob Galloway had birdies and Doug Bond a par (with a
stroke).
And.......(read on)
Guy Wellman did the hole in one thing himself, up at the
Hendersonville Country Club where he also does the golf thing.
It came on the uphill fifteenth hole. It does not appear we'll be getting a
free slurpy out of this one!!!!! But, congratulations anyhow.
HOLE IN ONE FOR WHITLEY Les
Burns Hits Ace
Mac Whitley ended a hole-in-one dry spell for
the Golden Boys on 8/18/03, plunking an ace on Linkside's Hole #17. A
nine-iron did the trick. It was his 4th hole-in-one.
Golden Boy Les Burns hit a hole-in-one 8/20/02 on Hole #15 at Mt.
Mitchell Golf Club, 147 yards with a nine wood. Witnesses: Don Caldwell of
Greenville, Bob Rhyne of River Hills, and Roy Lynam of Charlotte.
Not to take away from the thrill of the ace, but it did not occur in a Golden Boy event so
it receives none of the benefits of our Hole In One Club
Doc Simmons Masters #5
Dr. A.O. (Doc) Simmons scored a hole-in-one 6/27/02 on Linkside's #5 during the
Wednesday Golden Boys play to empty the hole-in-one kitty and put him in line for a $100
spree at the pro shop. It was the third ace in Simmons' golf career and was achieved
using a 11-wood. Witnesses were Merv Moeller, Bill Allen and Len Lipowicz.
Our Boy
Chuck
Chuck Hite made the first Hole In One under the new
Golden Boys Ace Policy (May, 2002), on Creekside #14, got the new kitty and a $100 credit
at the pro shop.
HOLE-IN-ONE PARADE:
HITE....THEN BELL!
A hole-in-one is beginning to be rather commonplace around the Golden Boys
these days, with Ralph Bell (left picture) scoring an ace on 12/05, preceded on 12/03 by a
Chuck Hite (right ace) hole in one.
Bell used a nine-iron on Creekside No. 14 for score his first hole-in-one at Pebble Creek.
It is the fourth ace in Ralph's golf career, the others coming at Fountain Inn
(twice) and Bonnie Brae.
Chuck Hite's second hole-in-one of the year, came on Linkside's No. 14, a 146-yard Par 3,
during the 12/03 Golden Boys competition. On May 28, Chuck also scored a hole-in-one on
Creekside's #14. His career ace total now stands at six.
Hole
In One For Sargent
Etowah CC was the site
11/1/01 of Golden Boy Conde Sargent's first hole-in-one, using a left-handed pitching
wedge on a 110-yarder.
It occurred during the GB's home-and-home series with the Etowah lads.
Giorgione
Aces #5
Tony Giorgione scored a hole-in-one 9/28/01 during the Golden
Boys competition on Hole No. 5 on Linkside. A 7-iron produced the ace, Tony's third career
hole-in-one. All of which means, the Golden Boys' hole-in-one pot needs to be rebuilt. Two
bucks to Chuck Hite gets you in the new pot.
Not to take away from the hole-in-one but Bob Martineau's activity on No.
11 certainly is worth mentioning. On two consecutive shots, his approach to
the green hit the power lines that run across the fairway.
