Awards to follow
Teams
Players will be ranked by
index and placed in three 12-man pools. Prior to dinner on Tuesday, the
captains will choose from three pools until all names are selected, making two
21-player teams. All players will play 18 holes both days. Team captains
choose partners for the competition, matching up players within the A, B, & C
groups and are responsible for pairing the teams in all events. An “A” player
must play with another “A” player and they will play against a set of “A”
players from the other team. Foursomes will consist of two players from each
team.
Format
Round 1 Two-Man, Best
Ball: Wednesday’s first match will be two-man best net ball, for the first
nine holes a team plays (1-9 if starting on #1, 18 thru 8 if starting on #18,
for example).
Round 2 Modified Alternate
Ball: The second match
will be modified alternate ball (all players hit off tee, then begin alternate
ball off the drive they choose). The second match starts on the hole after
first nine holes.
Round 3 Scramble:
Friday’s first match will be a
scramble (both players hit from the ball of their choice) for nine holes.
Round 4 Individual:
The final match will be
individual, with the low handicappers on each team in the Friday foursomes
playing each other.
In all cases, strokes will be based off the low ball in each match. Black
tee handicaps on September 15th (divided by 2 since matches are nine holes) are
the basis for strokes. Note: In alternate ball and the scramble, team strokes
will be the average on the two players divided by 2.
Additional Rules
·
A mulligan is permitted
by each player on the first hole played each day. If you use the mulligan, you
must play it.
·
All matches in this
event are MATCH play. Scoring is hole by hole.
·
Ball must be played
into hole unless conceded (NO GOLDEN BOY GIMME RULE).
·
The ball selected on
alternate shot must remain in play until holed or conceded.
·
Tee box is held with
“honors”. Flip for honors on the first tee.
·
Order of play is
determined by farthest from the hole when playing out the hole. We will not be
playing “ready golf”. (Prompt play throughout the round is encouraged,
however.)
·
Lift, clean and place
within one club length no closer to the hole if in own fairway. Play in rough
as it lies.
·
Scorecards will be
provided for each cart each day, showing starting hole and strokes allowed.
Scoring
The winner of each match will post one point for his/their team. A draw will
give a 1/2 point for both teams. Match losers do not score any points. The
team with the most points is the 2011 Golden Boys Presidents Cup champion.

with the most point is the 2010 Golden Boys Ryder Cup champion.
The red-shirted Team Creek split the pot for winning the
first Golden Boys Ryder Cup tournament on 10/22. The vanquished blue Team
Link joined in the fun. The question never was if there would be another one
in 2011.
It was WHEN
will it be, an obvious urging that GB powers on high find a place on the
official GB calendar and lock in some dates for the next go-round.
"It was a lot of fun, fun for everyone, I think," said Blue
Captain Dan Coviello, purportedly the first of Italian origin to captain any
Ryder Cup team anywhere.
His team rallied the final day, but lost out in
the two-day tabulations, 27 1/2 to 17 1/2.
A gracious Red captain, Jimmy Crain, said the first try at
the format was welcomed with enthusiasm by players. "It was great," he said. "I
hope we're all around to enjoy it next year." And the year after that,
after that, after that...
As in the case of most events involving the "old men of
Pebble Creek", every sip out of post-game suds brought out suggestions
for how we should do it next year. Not how you should have done it this
year, but what to do down the road.....
Director Dave Postlewaite is glad to hear that. And in an
effort to channel suggestions, shoot the legitimate ideas to him via email:
mopo38@hotmail.com.
Scoring, more pictures, tournament setup on
another page..
Coincidence: Dan Malone told us early
on we could class up our tournament by hiring a bagpple group for an authenic
Ryder Cup touch. Lo and behold, shortly before Friday's teeoff, bagpipe music
filled the air from the Pebble Creek parking lot. Before any of us could take
credit, the well decked out performer told us he was playing for a Linkside
outing also on Friday morning and we were all sharing the staging area--and the
music.
